Harrodsburg has one of the most charming town squares in Kentucky. That’s according to Fadi Kouzaiha, a writer for WorldAtlas.com, which bills itself as one of the largest publishing resources in geography and other topics, including sociology, demography, environment, economics, politics and travel.
In a recent blog post, Kouzaiha celebrated the charm that comes “…with a courthouse, a café, and a festival all in one square.”
“Along the square, you can find historic storefronts, cultural events, and local businesses,” Kouzaiha wrote. “If you are prepared for real small-town character, take a stroll through the squares and let Kentucky show you how community is produced one block at a time.”
In the post, Hogtown was celebrated as Kentucky’s oldest settlement, and it was noted that the town square in front of the Mercer County Judicial Center is within walking distance of Old Fort Harrod State Park and Beaumont Inn and is a short drive to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, the country’s largest restored Shaker community.
The other Kentucky town squares celebrated were Murray, LaGrange, Paducah, Danville, Bardstown and Berea.
You’ll get a chance to see downtown Harrodsburg in all its glory when the Nutcracker Christmas Parade happens Friday, Dec. 5. The parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and is being organized by the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce.
At the end of the parade, Santa will arrive at Old Town Park on Main Street at to light the tree at the Christmas on Main, which runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
There will also be Christmas music, food trucks and festive treats vendors and holiday shopping, local restaurants staying open late.
The Harrodsburg-Mercer County Tourist Commission is promising plenty of holiday cheer.
