A teenager was airlifted to Lexington for medical treatment after being injured in a tubing accident on Herrington Lake this weekend.

According to WKYT, a 13-year-old was tubing on the lake when he was struck by another boat. The accident happened on Saturday, Aug. 16, around 8 p.m., according to WKYT.

Citing a report from Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, the 13-year-old suffered multiple lacerations and broken bones. They were airlifted to UK Hospital for treatment, according to WKYT.

No foul play is expected and no criminal charges have been filed, according to the report.

Lake locals are creating a community care basket for the victim. According to a Facebook post by HerringtonLakeKY.com, contributions can be dropped off at Kamp Kennedy Marina (4646 Kennedy Bridge Road, Lancaster).

Organizers are accepting donations through Thursday evening. They are asking for gift cards to local Lexington restaurants and general Visa or Mastercard gift cards to help with any expenses as well as snacks and comfort items.

Organizers say they hope to get the basket to the family by Friday.

Kamp Kennedy is open the following hours: Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

They will also pick up donations. For more information, call 859-548-2002 or visit kampkennedymarina.com or Facebook @Kamp Kennedy Marina.

• Learn how to get up out of the water and how to safely use the tow rope.

• Always have a spotter in the boat, and go over basic hand signals.

• Make certain the towline is not caught in the propeller or wrapped around you prior to beginning.

• Wait for the propeller to stop before getting back on the boat.

• Enjoy these activities during daylight hours only.
