Rockcastle Speedway in Mt. Vernon hosted a night of racing on Saturday, July 13, including modifieds, mini-stocks, Hornets, Crown Vies, Kentucky Dirt Racing AIliance Super Stocks, and most importantly, crate late model racing. Two Mercer County natives, Josh Vinyard and Clay Turner, were behind the wheel, as they have been most summer weekends for the last several years.

Vinyard has been racing for the last three years, though it’s been his goal since he attended races as a child. He says one can’t just watch the races; there is always a calling to know what it feels like behind the wheel.

“You can watch it all day long, but it’s one of those deals that you’ve got to sit in the car. It’s been my dream my whole life. I just wanted to drive. It’s expensive; I couldn’t really figure out how to do it, and I still don’t really know how to do it. I’m just winging it at this point,” said Vinyard.
