A local man has been indicted for his attempted escape from justice.

Joshua Collins, 37, of 439 West Court Street, was indicted last week on a single count of 2nd degree escape, a class D felony. On or about April 8, 2026, the defendant, Joshua Collins, is accused of escaping from the custody of the transport officer at the Mercer County Judicial Center.

Local law enforcement sent out an alert when Collins, who was still handcuffed, took off down Greenville Street at approximately 4 p.m.

Dep. Michael Raisor of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office told WKYT that Collins was being transported from a probation violation hearing back to Woodford County Detention Center.

“When the back door was open the male jumped out of the vehicle and took off running,” Dep. Raisor told WKYT.

According to Raisor, Collins was loose for just over an hour. He was found in a backyard on Litsey Avenue, according to WKYT.

It was not Collins’ first flight from justice, according to the MCSO.

“Very first pursuit that I actually got into directly after my graduation in the academy was with this male individual fleeing from us in a truck,” Raisor told WKYT.

Collins’ bail was set at $5,000. T. Butts (MCSO) testified for the Commonwealth.

On Tuesday, June 16, the Mercer County Grand Jury handed up indictments on charges including escape, sodomy, drug possession and bail jumping.
