The Mercer County Titans softball team (14-14) lost 5-6 to the Southwestern Warriors  (22-12) in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament on Monday, May 25.

The Warriors had a commanding five-run lead halfway through the game and Mercer was able to chip away in the back half of the contest. The Titans had bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, but just couldn’t bring them home. Mercer split pitching duties between senior Ella Davis, who threw for four innings and gave up six runs and sophomore Ava Musick, who pitched the last two innings and gave up zero hits.

Junior Jaley Bowman led off for Mercer in the top of the first inning and popped out to the Warriors’ shortstop. Musick was walked, but Southwestern caught two balls in the outfield to stop any scoring chance. The Warriors’ first batter hit a line drive double to left field and followed it up with a line drive single to score the first run of the game, 0-1. Mercer picked up an out on a fielder’s choice, and senior Emory Thompson turned a double play by catching a line drive at third base and throwing out a runner at first base.
