Starting in January, all blood drives will move to Youngs Park at 530 Linden Avenue, near Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital, according to the Kentucky Blood Center.

Winter weather and illnesses have had an impact on the blood supply this year. The Kentucky Blood Center is the provider for more than 70 hospitals in across the Commonwealth, local patients rely on a healthy blood supply for everything from traumas to cancer treatments, surgeries, diseases, organ transplants and more.

The blood donation process is easy and has a major impact on the community. Whole blood donations take less than an hour from registration to refreshment. One donation can save up to three local lives.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
