Lifeguards ‘heroes’ after saving 4 year-old

Last week, the Mercer County Fiscal Court recognized five lifeguards for the quick action that saved the life of 4-year-old Asher Espinosa at the Anderson-Dean Community Pool. The teens, Alyssa Montgomery, Aiden Musick, Hope Lanham, Abigail Kuhn and Cadence Curtsinger, prevented a tragedy that could have haunted the Espinosa family for a lifetime.

Asher was part of a day-care group who were spending the day at the pool. His 3-year-old sister, Annalise and 8-year-old brother, Abisail, who they call Abi, were also there.

Abi alerted Montgomery that Asher had his face in the water too long and the lifeguard crew jumped into action.

“When I looked for his brother, I saw Abigail (Kuhn) already in the water pulling him to safety,” said Montgomery. “I started rescue breathing and Aiden started compressions. After one round of CPR, he began breathing.”
