The Burgin City Council held their monthly meeting Tuesday, June 13, at City Hall, and after a lot of discussion and multiple motions, they voted to add a $6 surcharge to the water bill and passed their yearly budget.
During departmental reports, Mayor Joe Monroe reminded the council of the $1.75 surcharge per active water meter for 911 services that goes into effect July 1. He also told the council it was time to take action on the water meter cost the city was absorbing. With the increase of wholesale water prices, the city could no longer afford to pay the increased price and the monthly water meter fee.
Monroe said after calculating both a price increase or the surcharge, the surcharge was going to be cheaper for the residents.
