Mercer Tennis Completes Regular Season

On Tuesday, May 9, the Mercer County Titans tennis team competed at Somerset for their last regular season match.
The girls’ team fell short with a team score of 2-3. Sara Dunn, the number one seed, won 8-2 in her singles match. The number two seed, Norah Martin lost 2-8. Senior Hope Lanham, the number three seed for singles, won 8-0. Maddie Smith and Lily Leitenberger lost their number one doubles match 3-8. The number two doubles of Gracie Gaddis and Naomi Martin, lost 1-8.
The boys’ team won 3-1. The number one singles senior Luke Whitenack won 8-4. Sophomore Tharun Eka won his number two singles match 8-6. The number three seed Will Dean lost 1-8. Whitenack and Eka won their doubles match 8-4.
The 12th Region tournament began on Monday, May 15. Whitenack and Eka will played their first-round doubles match at Millennium Park at 2 p.m. and unfortunately lost. Dean and Noffsinger also lost their first-round doubles match.
The girls were scheduled to play Tuesday, but games were scheduled to Wednesday, May 17, due to weather. The three seed of the tournament, Dunn, got a bye in the first round and played her quarterfinal match at Centre Courts at 4 p.m. Lanham, the eighth seed of the tournament, played at 2 p.m. at Centre Courts. The results were not available by press time.
