Burgin senior Hayden Short signed with Kentucky Christian University for bass fishing on Monday, April 24.
KCU wields a nationally recognized bass fishing program, and ended the 2022 school year ranked sixth in the Collegiate Bass Fishing Series. Their team has won Bassmasters tournaments, set records and continues to move up in rankings yearly.
“KCU is very blessed to have Hayden as part of the KCU family,” said Head coach Gene Nornhold.
Last year, Hayden placed in the top 20% in the 2022 Bassmaster High School National Championship and has placed well this season, including first place at the second GRC Tournament, third at the fourth GRC Tournament, and sixth at the second KHSAA Region tournament.
Short will start his collegiate bass fishing journey later this fall, and Nornhold believes, “with his talent and knowledge of fishing he will help us move KCU forward to a National Championship.”
This past weekend, the 2023 KHSAA Bass Fishing State Championship was held at Kentucky Lake in Calvert City. The Burgin team reunited with alumni Archer Smith in the competition.
