On Friday, May 5,  the Burgin Lady Bulldogs faced the Somerset Christian Lady Cougars in a one-sided 15-0 loss.

Sophomore Jemma Jenkins started in the circle for Burgin. She took a few minutes to warm up but threw a strikeout to get the Bulldog’s defense going. Freshman third baseman Hayley Hurst closed out the inning with two caught fly balls. The Lady Cougars didn’t waste any time putting points on the board and ended the top of the first with four runs.

Junior Cloey Henson hit a single, but Burgin could not get anything else going with three quick outs. The first inning ended with a Somerset lead, 4-0.

Burgin’s offense started off slow and gave up four runs. Henson caught a fly ball for the first out, then Jocelyn Stanley scooped up a grounder, and connected with Gracie Watkins for the second out. Somerset had an automatic out because of a lineup error and the top of the second ended, 7-0.

Burgin was looking for a chance to get on base but struggled against the Lady Cougars’ pitcher with three strikeouts.

The Lady Bulldogs end their regular season on the road with Model in Richmond on Friday, May 12 at 6 p.m. and Paris High School on Saturday, May 13, at 4 p.m.
