GEAR UP Kentucky Honors Mercer Student, Teacher Of The Year

Mercer GEAR UP Kentucky Coordinator Felicia Crowe congratulated Christina Emmanuel and Norah Martin on being named Teacher of the Year and Student of the Year.
During the GEAR UP Kentucky Institute for a College-Going Culture hosted at the Campbell House in Lexington, on April 25, 2023, GEAR UP Kentucky recognized Students and Outstanding Educators of the Year.
Norah Martin has been named the 2022-23 GEAR UP Kentucky Student of the Year for Mercer County Senior High School. To be recognized, Martin, a freshman, served as student ambassador, was in good academic standing, consistently demonstrated positive leadership at school in GEAR UP activities and amongst her peers and commited to assisting with recruitment and leadership next year.
Christina Emmanuel, a math teacher at Mercer Senior High, was named the 2022-23 GEAR UP Kentucky Outstanding Educator of the Year. Emmanuel was selected because she makes a significant, positive impact on students and actively supports the mission and vision of GEAR UP Kentucky in her school.
GEAR UP Kentucky is a federally funded grant program administered by the Council on Postsecondary Education that provides services to students and families in 12 Kentucky school districts and nine partner Kentucky postsecondary institutions. The program;s mission is to increase the number of students in low-income Kentucky communities who are ready to successfully transition to and through postsecondary education.
