The Mercer County girls and boys track team traveled to the University of Louisville this weekend, April 21 and 22. Thirteen athletes competed at Eastern Relays, one of the most prestigious meets in Kentucky.
Teams traveled from all over the state and country to compete. The select few Titans traveled to this meet to prepare for the state track competition in June. Senior Lleyton Penn ,who is always outstanding, received a bronze medal for his shot put throw of 53-04.75. Senior Beau Brown ran well, placing second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.25 seconds. Running among some of the best, Penn and Brown proved they are just as talented and can compete amongst the very best.
With a few girls competing, the Lady Titans went with something to prove as well. Senior Jai Maria Piazza took first place in the long jump. Not only did she set a new Mercer County School record with her 18-03.00 jump, it ranked her first in Kentucky. Piazza also placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.87 seconds.
