The Harrodsburg Historical Society has a rummage sale coming up on Friday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Morgan Row (220 South Chiles Street).

The sale, which is fund raiser, will feature books, household items and home decorations, jewelry and more, said Nancy Hill, president of the Harrodsburg Historical Society.

It’s not the only thing the society are up to. They are also holding an ice cream social on Tuesday, July 12, starting at 7 p.m. at the Morgan Row Research Library. The ice cream social is part of the society’s regular monthly meeting.

“We’ll be updating people about our activities and how they can participate,” Hill said. She said the society—which was chartered in 1908 to preserve the history of Harrodsburg and Mercer County—is planning several projects to celebrate Harrodsburg’s 250th birthday in 2024.

The historical society also recently received a $2,500 grant from the Kentucky Historical Society to create an exhibit, “Harrodsburg Stories: A Community Collection,” and a $10,000 grant from the Kentucky Humanities Council to build a new website, harrodsburghistorical.org. The mobile-friendly website has a searchable catalog and new content is being added by the volunteer staff.

“It’s a terrifying thing for me,” said Hill, who was working on the website Monday.

The historical society is looking for new blood. The membership cost per year is $10 for students, $30 for individuals, $45 for families and $60 for corporate membership. Lifetime membership is $250.

The Harrodsburg Historical Society is located at 220 South Chiles Street. For more information, call 859-325-9028 or visit their new website at harrodsburghistorical.org.
