Burgin Girls Drop Season Ending Game Against Thomas Nelson

The Burgin Lady Bulldogs (7-20) fell short, 34-66, to the Thomas Nelson Generals (7-18) Thursday, Feb. 17.

The first basket came at the 6:15 mark of the first quarter with Thomas Nelson knocking down a 3-pointer bank shot followed by another open look behind the arc to force an early Burgin timeout, 0-6. Coming out of the timeout, Isabella Mays dropped in a tough layout with Avery Gray getting the assist, 2-6.

The Generals scored the next 10 points with three layups off of steals and four free throws to close out the first quarter, 2-16.

Thomas Nelson continued to heat up with another triple and layup off of a Burgin turnover, 2-21.  The Bulldogs broke out of their slump with Baleigh Turner hitting a corner 3-pointer with senior Ellie Jenkins getting the assist, 5-22. Turner went to the free throw line to earn Burgin’s next two points halfway through the second quarter, 7-22.

The Generals scored a quick four points in the paint followed by Jemma Jenkins splitting a pair of free throws, 8-26. Thomas Nelson collected another four points with two free throws and a layup, 8-30. The first half came to a close with E. Jenkins getting a steal and finishing at the basket, but the Generals notched the final points with a free throw, 10-31.
