Melvin Ison

Melvin Lewis Ison Sr., 65, of Harrodsburg, husband of Liz Allen Ison, died Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 24, 1956, in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harry S. Turner and Ruth (Ison) Vandyke.

He attended Garrard County Schools, was an equipment operator at the E.W. Brown Power Plant, liked to fish, attend the Red Mile racetrack in Lexington and was a member of the St. Paul Predestinarian Baptist Church in Lancaster.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: one daughter, Kristi (Roosevelt) Blackford of Harrodsburg; one son, Melvin Lewis Ison Jr. of Harrodsburg; one sister, Penny (Davey) Logan of Lancaster; two brothers, Paul (Margaret) VanDyke of Danville and Curtis Ison of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, Haley Bradshaw, Monica Ison, Aliyah Ison and Xzavier Blackford; one sister-in-law, Pat Linton of Harrodsburg; one brother-in-law, Lee (Joyce) Allen of Burgin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Ison; one sister, Midge Ison; one niece, Cindy Logan; and two nephews, Neil Logan and Derrick Stewart.

Funeral services are today Thursday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg with Elder James McPherson, Elder Michael McPherson and Elder Barry Bowman officiating. Burial is in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Visitation 8 a.m. until the hour of service.

Pallbearers are Lamont Linton, Chris Linton, Cody Linton, Rosie Blackford, Arnez Buford and Reid Martin. Honorary bearers are Davey Logan Jr., Ruben Catchen, Montez Ison, Cam Linton, Ed Huguely and William Warren.
