Researchers of the Dancing Lady of Harrodsburg are asking residents with stories related to her legend to attend a pre-documentary filming at Young’s Park on Thursday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to noon and Friday, June 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.

“The public is invited to offer local lore, stories and ancestor history to participate in the documentary,” said Smelser. “Anyone with a story can come tell us at the park, we would love to hear it.”

The Dancing Lady of Harrodsburg was a hot topic in Mercer County earlier this year when researchers Todd Matthews and Lynn Smelser, PH.D, sought to have the unknown woman exhumed for DNA to run through ancestry databases. Although the city denied the request at their Monday, March 8, meeting, Matthews and Smelser are still working on a documentary about the historic incident.

Why did they say no about exhuming the body to gain dna? It seems like it would be a logical step.
