Admirals Sink Titans

The Mercer County Titans (22-7) had a tough time generating runs against the powerhouse Danville Admirals (29-3) on Thursday, May 20. They recorded 4 hits and a run dropping their game with Danville 11-1.

In the bottom of the third, Ethan Wood came up to the plate looking to put Danville on the board. Wood hit a line-drive over the center field wall to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead with one out in the inning. Brady Morse singled on a hard ground ball to center field. With a runner on first, Christian Howe homered to left center to make it a 3-0 lead in the third. With two outs in the inning, Brady Baxter and Bryson Young went back to back with balls landing over the left field wall. Danville lead 5-0 at the end of the third.

Senior Landon McGinnis looked to improve his play in the fourth. He singled on a 2-1 count to left field giving the Titans a base-runner. Junior Aaron Caton singled on the first pitch of the at-bat to left field in the top of the fifth, but the Titans could not knock him around to score. In the top of the sixth, McGinnis singled another ball hit to left field with two outs in the inning. Senior Caleb Purdom got hit by a pitch to move McGinnis to second. With a runner in scoring position, Sam Baughman knew his job. Baughman singled on a line drive to center field, scoring McGinnis and advancing Purdom to second.
