The  15th annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration in Mercer County was held virtually on Monday, Jan. 18, via Zoom.

Hosted by the Mercer County Cooperative Extension office, the event was a question and answer session designed to open communication about race in Mercer County.

Community members were encouraged to submit questions and topics to the panel prior to the event.

“We want to discuss everything that has happened over the last 15 years,” said Luci Hockersmith, an organizer for the event.  “We want to celebrate how far we have come as well as where we need to go still.”

Newly elected officials representing diversity in leadership was an example of celebration to Hockersmith.
