The Burgin Bulldogs boys basketball team moved to 0-3 following a 64-45 loss to Middlesboro (1-2) this past Saturday, Jan. 16.
Of Burgin’s three games in 2021, none was more competitive than against the Yellowjackets. The first quarter was back and forth with both teams scoring at will. Sophomore Harrison Reed and junior John Boursaw led the Bulldog offense early and the first quarter ended with a 21-19 Middlesboro lead. The two teams went tit for tat from behind the arc in the first half, the Bulldog offense performing as good as they have all season.
“I thought we played really hard. I was proud of how hard we played defensively. At halftime we were right in the game, we made a couple of adjustments for the second half but Middlesboro is a very good team, they were very strong, but I liked how our kids bounced back, challenged themselves and there were a lot of really good things that I thought we did well,” said Troy Thomas, head coach of the Burgin boys’ basketball team.
