Spring is here and the Mercer County Senior High School greenhouse is holding their annual sale while abiding by federal and state guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“The school greenhouse is a learning lab for the horticulture department within our agricultural program,” said Kendra Rowland, agriculture teacher. “Students in greenhouse classes have the opportunity to learn plant taxonomy, anatomy, reproduction and other horticultural concepts.”
Rowland said plants were started before classes were canceled.
“In a typical year, the culmination of this learning results in an annual plant sale. The revenue generated goes back into the horticulture account to purchase soil, containers, plugs, seeds and other supplies for the next year’s greenhouse crop,” said Rowland. “Annual bedding plants and vegetables are available. We appreciate the community’s support year after year.”
The Mercer County Greenhouse Facebook page has a virtual tour available for those interested in exploring the inventory.
“The best way to purchase is to follow the Facebook page,” said Rowland. “Pickups will be the next day after an order is submitted.”
For more information, email Rowland at Kendra.rowland@mercer.kyschools.us.
