Burgin XC finish in top 5 at Boyle County Invitational

The Burgin Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs cross country team competed at the Boyle County Invitational on Thursday, Sept, 19, at Millenium Park in Danville.

Both teams placed in the top five, with the Bulldogs placing third and the Lady Bulldogs placing fourth.

Sophomore John Boursaw was the top finisher among males, placing fourth overall in 19 minutes and 32 seconds.

After Boursaw, freshmen Brendan Stanley placed 11th (20:42).

Freshman Karl Strand placed 15th (21:58), sophomore Rocky Chamber finished right after Strand in 16th (22:15), sophomore Travis Stewart placed 29th (25:34) and sophomore Divya Patel placed 42nd (34:49).

Sophomore Avery Harmon was the top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs, placing 12th in 24 minutes and 15 seconds.

After Harmon, sophomore Rebecca Biggs placed 14th (24:58), sophomore Kenzie Humber placed 18th (25:13), sophomore Grace Cocanougher finished 20th (25:22), sophomore Ellie Jenkins finished in 24th (26:09), sophomore Abigale Church placed 27th (27:57) and freshman Anderson Taylor finished 32nd (29:30).

“We are very proud of our entire team. This season, we have very strong and young runners,” said Head Coach Bryan Vandiviere.

Burgin’s top returning runners are sophomores.

“Despite our team being young, they have been with the program since elementary school. With our strong performance at the Boyle County Invitational, we are very excited to see what the remainder of the season has in store for us,” said Vandiviere.

The next meet for the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs  will be on Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Berea Invitational at Alumni Field, from 10-12 a.m.
