Wendell Johnson, 85, of Harrodsburg, husband of Joyce Mae Bailey Johnson, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at The Willows at Harrodsburg.
Born Aug. 6, 1934, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Condit Buford and Evelyn Mae Cole Johnson.
He was a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church, and had been a longtime member of the New Testament Church, where he served as Elder, Deacon and Song Leader for many years. Wendell was an avid quail hunter and raised English Setters with his son, Richard Gayle, for many years.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Karen (Michael) Goodlett of Harrodsburg; one son, Richard Gayle (Judy) Johnson of Harrodsburg; one brother, William Elton Johnson of Lexington; four grandchildren, Sessani (Kevin) Withers, Lynette (Nicholas) McKinney, Hope (Darren) Ransdell, and Leslye (Clay) Turner; eight great-grandchildren, Brantley, Hailey, Conley, and Judley McKinnley, Bella and Reese Ransdell, Taylor and Brooklyn Withers.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Johnson.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Trent Baker. Burial was in Mayo Christian Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers were Michael Goodlett, Darren Ransdell, Kevin Withers, Nicholas McKinney, Clay Turner, Wesley Johnson, William Elton Johnson, William Elton Johnson II and Brantley McKinney. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Johnson, Dallas Waterfill, Jimmy Sexton, Don Stiglich, Jerry and Regina Shelly, Glendon Overstreet, Rodney Thompson, Wendell Kurtz, Glenn Drury, Magnolia Street Christian Members, Mercer Bible Fellowship Members and Cole Road neighbors and friends.
