The Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Tigers men’s basketball team celebrated senior night on Thursday, Jan. 31, in an 86-78 victory over Warren Wilson College.

The lone senior on the squad, Oliver Bishop, scored a team-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists.

Bishop, a Chicago native, started his career at Eastern Kentucky University before coming to Harrodsburg prior to this season. He talked about his final home game.

“I just let loose. My support system has been talking to me and telling me to relax and play my game,” said Bishop. “I had that mindset throughout. My teammates noticed and trusted me to have the ball in that situation and I accepted the challenge. It was a great way to close out the season at home.”

The Tigers swept Warren Wilson this season, defeating them for the second time in a week. This was an emotional win for Bishop and his teammates. The Tigers trailed by 15 at halftime and that was when Head Coach Herve Kouna challenged his team to share the ball.

Freshman Tyrese Duncan was one of the key catalysts in the comeback, scoring 22 points and hauling in six rebounds.

Both teams were tied with two minutes to play. This was Bishop’s moment. He hit a huge step-back three with the shot clock winding down to give the Tigers the lead. They never looked back from there. Bishop hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Freshman Tyrone Duncan contributed 11 points and freshman Shadarno Clarke added 15 points and 10 rebounds to round out the double-digit scoring for the Tigers.

CU-Harrodsburg’s perimeter defense was stifling, forcing Warren Wilson to shoot 29-percent (11-for-37) from beyond the arc.

The Tigers managed to shoot at a 48-percent (11-of-23) clip from three, and they also outrebounded Warren Wilson 31-20.

Kouna talked about the game and coaching Bishop this season.

“I can’t think of a better ending for a senior night than what happened tonight. To hit the go ahead three and secure the win at the line, you can’t ask for a better ending for a senior,” said Kouna. “He took a chance transferring in on his final year of eligibility and made sacrifices daily to lead our young group. What he’s done this year was perfectly visible on senior night. His leadership and bold spirit have cemented his legacy in Harrodsburg.”

CU-Harrodsburg improves their record to 6-8. They will be back on the hardwood today, Thursday, Feb. 7, when they travel to Georgia to take on Andrew University.
