Velma Patterson

Velma Votaw Patterson, 99, widow of Edwin M. Patterson, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at the Willows of Harrodsburg.

Born Oct. 9, 1919, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ada Sims Votaw.

She is survived by three daughters: Diana (Stephen) Mullins of Lexington, Donna (Don, deceased) Hayslett and Vicki (Larry) Long of Harrodsburg; grandchildren Debbie Webb, Gil Hayslett II, Ed Long, Cliff Long, Bert Mullins, and Fred Mullins; and great-grandchildren, Henry Webb, Lauren and John Hayslett, Cade Long, Mason Long, and Eva Mullins.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Peggy Jean Patterson and by eight siblings.

She was a current member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church and a former member of Burgin Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, GA leader, and worked in VBS. She worked as a seamstress for Cricketeer and for the Mercer Dress Company, where she served as an officer of the local union. She loved gardening, canning, needle pointing, sewing, quilting, and cooking. She made the world’s best fried chicken. Her humor, quick wit, and feistiness will long be remembered and forever missed.

Her grandsons and greatgrandsons will serve as pallbearers, and her granddaughter and great-granddaughter will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 7, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the funeral at 1 p.m., held at Randell Funeral Chapel.
