Eugenia Carpenter

Eugenia Bisset Carpenter, 96, formally of Harrodsburg, died on Aug. 24, 2018. 

Born Oct. 30, 1921, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Mattie Strader Bisset and  the late David Lee Bisset.

She graduated from Mercer County High School, attended Centre College, graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Kentucky.

In 1958, she married  John W. Carpenter. His engineering career took them to Japan, France, Alabama, returning to London, Ky., his hometown, in 1965.  Her interests were many—education, travel, friends, family history, Scotland, her homeplace at Mundy’s Landing in Mercer County, hostessing, gardening, many horses and pet dogs. Her teaching career began at Mercer County Schools and continued at Sue Bennet College. 

She was a life-long member of Harrodsburg Presbyterian Church, attended First Presbyterian Church in London and was a founder of both Laurel and London Garden Clubs. She was a national flower show judge and a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Survivors include: many nieces, nephews and her faithful caretaker, Darlene Smith.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings: Martha Bisset Clay, Margaret Bisset Shewmaker, Katherine Bisset Hyams, David L. Bisset. 

A private graveside service will be held at the Bisset lot,  Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.
