Judy Katchmar

Judy Dale Snyder Katchmar, 71, formerly of Harrodsburg, passed away on March 19, 2018, at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus, GA.

Judy was born on September 5, 1946 in Harrodsburg, to Clinton and Ruth Snyder.

Following graduation from Valley High School (Louisville) in 1964, she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After completing basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC, she was selected for data processing school. While attending, she met, then married, Gary A. Sloan, gave birth to their son, Gary A. Sloan, Jr., and became a full-time homemaker and part-time college student.

In 1977, Judy graduated with honors from Darton College in Albany, GA with an Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. She joined the Albany, GA Police Department that same year as a patrol officer. In 1999 she had the distinction of being selected as the Albany Police Department’s police officer of the year.

Judy rose to the rank of lieutenant and was assigned to the Albany Police Department’s criminal investigative division, serving the citizens of Albany for a total of 30 years.

In May, 1980, she remarried, uniting with Tom Katchmar, also an officer with the Albany Police Department. Judy and Tom were married 36 years until Tom’s death in 2016.
