Caldwell Sues Burgin For His Job Back
Former Police Chief Jim Caldwell is suing the City of Burgin and Mayor George Hensley.
Caldwell is charging the city with violating his right to due process under the Kentucky Policeman Bill of Rights and that his termination violates public policy. He also said his termination violates laws covering workmen’s compensation as well as the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993.
The former chief is asking to be reinstated with back pay, benefits and seniority by statute as well as general compensatory and punitive damages and costs and legal fees.
Mayor Hensley, who is a codefendant in the suit, declined to comment.
“We attempted to negotiate in good faith with the City of Burgin,” Caldwell said. “The last thing I wanted to do was sue my employer.”
