Being hired as a new basketball coach is a great moment for any rookie head coach, but the hardest part is putting together a staff that is beneficial for both the student-athletes and the program. Kasey McCray and Brian Pendygraft will be the new assistants under head coach Josh Hamlin.
McCray is a Harrodsburg native and lettered four years in basketball and baseball for the Titans. Pendygraft finds himself in a familiar position, as he was the head coach of the Titans in the early 2000s for four seasons.
McCray graduated from Mercer in 2010 and attended the University of Louisville, graduating in 2014 with a B.S. in exercise science.
During his time there, McCray was a student-assistant to Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino .
“It was an experience of a lifetime,” said McCray. “It was a very demanding job, with an array of responsibilities, but I will always be grateful for my time at U of L.”
Brian Pendygraft has been around Mercer County athletics for a long time, so roaming the Titan sidelines during basketball season will bring back a little nostalgia when the time comes.
“My relationship with Coach Hamlin and the fact my family felt it was time to get back in it was the ultimate factor of getting back into coaching.” said Pendygraft.
