Mercer County cheerleader, Alexis Claunch, tried out and made the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) cheerleading squad over the weekend adding to the success of Titan athletes at the college level.

Claunch has cheered all her life and is grateful for the opportunity EKU has given her to live out her childhood dream. “I chose EKU because it is a well established school,” said Claunch. “There is a wide variety of majors at EKU and they have a wonderful campus, because it is not too big and getting around campus is very easy.”

Cheering at the next level has always been a dream, she said. Claunch said EKU has always stood out to her and as soon as she took a visit there, she fell in love. There is no other school she would rather attend, she said.

“Growing up, going to college events and watching the cheerleaders was my favorite part,” she added. “I have always kept in the back of my mind that if I want to be able to cheer one day, I have to stay focused and determined to reach that goal.”
