The Burgin trapshooting team is in their first year of existence under Coach Doug Rulon and assistant Greg Hudgins.

The team consists of three 8th graders, six freshman, two sophomores, one junior and one senior.

Rulon has trapped all his life and saw a lot of potential in these kids at Burgin.

“It’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing and a couple years ago I had a chance to go out to the local range and shoot and saw that the students here were out shooting,” said Rulon. “I recognized the athletic potential and I’ve been waiting to start a trap team for several years and the conditions were just right here in Burgin.”

Rulon is in his first year teaching and coaching at Burgin, and he said he is looking forward to working with the kids and putting them in a position to excel outside of high school.

“My long-term goal for all of my shooters is to be ready to exit the program here at Burgin and be able to compete at the collegiate level,” said Rulon.
