Community Drug Forum on Thursday, April 13

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and the Mercer County Crime Stoppers are hosting a community meeting called “Opiate Addiction, Drug Abuse and Destruction” at Mercer County Senior High School on Thursday, April 13, from 7–9 p.m.

“I can’t tell you how many have asked, ‘What can we do as a community about the drug problem?’” said Sheriff Ernie Kelty.

Kelty said the drug epidemic doesn’t just affect the abusers, it also affects their families and the body of the entire community. It can’t be defeated only through law enforcement, he said. It’s also going to take citizens, recovery centers, families and churches all working together.

“If we can all combine together, we can make a difference,” Kelty said.

“Chasing the Dragon—The Life of an Opiate Addict,”a documentary produced by the FBI and the DEA, will be shown. Kelty said the video will expose the truth behind the opiate epidemic, with interviews of addicts bluntly discussing their addictions. The video contains profanity and graphic images. Viewer discretion is advised.
