Executives at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital and Kroger say there is no truth to recent rumors about the possible sale and closing of the two Mercer County institutions.
Haggin administrators are denying the 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, which is also one of the largest employers in Mercer County, is up for sale.
Chief Executive Officer Victoria L. Reed, said Haggin has received overtures from Ephraim McDowell Health system, which operates hospitals in Danville and Fort Logan. However, she insisted Harrodsburg’s only hospital is not on the market.
“Ephraim routinely reaches out to Haggin and asked us if we would like to strengthen our relationship with them up to and including being bought out,” said Reed, who denied the two hospitals were in negotiations.
