Expect more track closings this week

Motorists should expect more traffic stoppages this week. While Norfolk Southern is delaying the replacement of the Lexington Street crossing, delivery of replacement rail at other Mercer County crossings will proceed throughout the week.

The Lexington Street replacement, which had already been moved back one week, is now on indefinite hold, said Kyle H. Moore, an assistant track supervisor at Norfolk Southern.

Moore attributed the delay to “unforeseen circumstances.”

However, the rail train, which delivers new rail to be used to replace crossings, will start work on Wednesday, Moore said. That work should be finished before the end of the week.

Norfolk Southern crews will concentrate on the crossings from Bohon Road to Jack Garrett Lane.

Each crossing will be closed for approximately 20–25 minutes while the train is working through it, Moore said.
