BCDC Moves Closer to Offering Inmates Outpatient Treatment

The Boyle and Mercer Joint Jail Committee is moving closer towards opening a nonresidential substance abuse treatment program.

Bluegrass.org and Shepherd’s House, who are both headquartered in Lexington, were announced as finalists during a special called meeting on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Shepherd’s House would charge the jail $11,000 per month—a total of $132,000 per year—to operate the program. Bluegrass.org would charge $180,000 per year.

“I’m still going through the applications,” said Mercer County Judge-Executive Milward Dedman, who sits on the committee. “It’s not really apples to apples.”
