“Put a little love in your heart,” may be the words to a catchy 60s tune, but love is exactly what Bob and Jo Ann Martin had in their hearts when they started the Love Tree over 20 years ago.

The community toy drive for children at Christmas started at WHBN, when Martin owned it on Main Street. Jo Ann, along with friends and volunteers, would wrap presents for the children and Bob would start delivering them throughout the community.

Later, when Martin retired the project was adopted by Rosalind Turner and April Ellis at The Harrodsburg Herald.

“The first few years were absolute chaos,” joked Ellis, “but after a few years, we had it down to a science.”
