The City of Harrodsburg is loaning $195,000 interest free to the Wilderness Trace Family YMCA to purchase fitness equipment.

“I’m very grateful we’ll have the opportunity to get the wellness center up and running,” said Wilderness Trace Executive Director Jody Gilpin. “It has been a long time.”

Gilpin said she has worked at the YMCA for six years and there has never been any fitness equipment.

“It has been 10–15 years since we had any,” she said. “We’ve never had a full-functioning membership facility.”

Gilpin said the YMCA will use the money to purchase treadmills and elliptical machines within the next six months. The money will also be used to pay off the YMCA’s note with MainSource Bank, according to the loan agreement.

The equipment will allow Wilderness Trace to offer services comparable to other YMCAs in the region, Gilpin said.
