There has been only one Mercer County Senior High School golfer to ever qualify for the KHSAA State Tournament. Brennen Walton hopes to be the second this fall, as he steps on the course for his final year as a high school athlete.

“I think I have a shot to go individually and I’d like to make that happen,” said Walton, who will be the top player for the Titans for the third straight season. “I feel like I have the tools necessary to do that. I’ve just got to continue putting the work in.”

The only other Mercer golfer to qualify for the state tournament was Ward Dedman in 2007.

Mercer County Head Coach Jay Anderson believes  Walton has a chance to achieve the rare feat.

“He has really worked hard this summer and has put a lot of time in,” said Anderson. “Our goal for him is to qualify for the state tournament as an individual and I think he is capable of that.”

During the summer Walton played in numerous Junior Pro Golf Association (JPGA) events, helping him improve his consistency, which he said he still needs to work on.
