It has been quite a year for Mercer County athletics. Boys soccer made it to state yet again, the boys basketball team made the Sweet 16 and the girls team reached the Final Four of their state tournament. The athletic teams aren’t the only ones making state headlines, though.

The Mercer County Robotics Club recently competed in state competitions and placed eighth, matching up against many other schools across Kentucky. The club only has 10 participants and many schools at the competition were much larger, said instructor Amanda Brandenburg, who said placing in the top-10 in the state was a huge accomplishment.

“We were very successful this year,” Brandenburg said.
