Burgin Boys, Mercer Girls Cross-Country Qualify for State Meet

Both the Burgin boys and Mercer County girls cross country teams secured themselves a spot in the KHSAA State Cross Country Meet this Saturday after strong performances over the weekend in their respective region meets.
Burgin
Trevar Lay’s ninth place finish led the Bulldogs to a second place finish in the Class A, Region 5 meet at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.
Lay finished with a time of 18:10.00. Teammate Cooper Shearer wasn’t far behind as he finished 11th overall with a time of 18:18.75.
Burgin finished second to powerhouse Lexington Christian, who is expected be in the hunt for a state title.
Mercer County
Haley Blevins finished second out of 61 runners to lead the Lady Titans to a KHSAA State Cross-Country birth.
Blevins, who is in eighth-grade, finished with a time of 19:31.26. Boyle Coyle County’s Ally Anderson was the individual winner with a time of 19:19.54.
Hailey Stinnett was the only other Lady Titan runner to finish in the top-20. She finished 17th overall with a time of 22:45.67.
Rockcastle County was the team winner. They were followed by Casey County, Boyle County and Mercer County to round out the top-four, respectively.
The Mercer County boys didn’t have enough competitors to have a team score but they did send three individuals.
Lex Burkhead led the way for Mercer County as he finished 27th with a time of 19:04.69.
