The Mercer County volleyball team improved their win streak to four games against Burgin Monday night with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-23) victory.

Junior Tori Long was a big contributor in the win for the Lady Titans with 11 kills and three aces, which included five kills in the pivotal third game.

Burgin last defeated Mercer County in the 46th District Tournament on Oct. 21, 2013. Since then, it has been all Lady Titans. They haven’t lost a game to the Lady Bulldogs and have outscored them 300-160. Monday was much the same, as Mercer County controlled the match from beginning to end.

Mercer County jumped out to a 9-4 lead early in the first game, before the Lady Bulldogs inched closer to trail only 12-10. However, the Lady Titans dominated the rest of the game, winning 25-14.

The roles reversed early in the second game as Burgin jumped out to a lead, 9-5. Then it was Long’s time to take over.

After getting a kill to make the score 9-6, the junior served 13 consecutive times, to put the Lady Titans ahead 18-10. In that span she had two aces and two kills.
