The Mercer County 11-year-old All-Stars ran into a dominant Eastern Little League team as they fell, 11-1, Monday night.
Eastern, which is based out of Lexington, came into the tournament as the favorite and they were undefeated as they headed into the championship game. They had also defeated the Mercer County All-Stars earlier in the tournament. They came out of the gates quickly and proved why they were expected to be crowned champions.
Eastern held Mercer County scoreless in the top of the first and scored five runs in the bottom half.
Eastern’s first batter, Jacob Lane, reached on an error and their second batter, Gavin Klein, was walked. Both Lane and Klein advanced to second and third, respectively, after a wild pitch. Mercer County recorded their first out when starting pitcher Eli Newby struck out Baylor Woodall.
