The Mercer County baseball team didn’t get many opportunities to win the 46th District Championship Wednesday night as the West Jessamine Colts held them to only three hits and walked only one batter in a 7-1 win.
Even with such a bad performance at the plate, the Titans were within striking distance until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Leading 2-0, West Jessamine’s Trey Merida and Kendall Peters were both walked by pitcher Tanner Robins, to lead off the bottom of the sixth. The third batter of the inning, Maxx Mahon, hit an RBI single to centerfield and Troy Merida followed that up with a hard hit toward short stop, in which Mercer’s Layne Peavler had to make a diving catch to stop it from going into the outfield.
After West Jessamine’s Tanner Graham popped out to centerfield, the Colts added on to their four run lead.
Ryan Layne got an RBI, while Tucker Greer added two RBIs in the inning to put West Jessamine ahead 7-0.
