Queen of the Court

Mercer County junior Kyleigh Murray won the 2015 12th Region girls singles tennis championship Monday night. She advanced to the state tournament with the win.
Mercer County junior Kyleigh Murray entered the 12th Region tennis tournament championship with all of the pressure on her. She was the number one seeded player in the tournament and her finals match was the determining factor in whether or not the Lady Titans would finish as runners-up or third place.
She embraced the chance to prove to everyone that all of her hard work in the off-season had paid off, winning the championship over West Jessamine’s Katie Mitchell 7-5, 6-1, and helping the Lady Titans raise the runner-up trophy.
“I am kind of speechless because I knew it was possible, but I didn’t necessarily expect it,” said Murray, who received a bye in the first round as the top seed.
Being the top seed, though, meant Murray had a target on her back.
Every player was relishing at the opportunity to knock off the favorite, but each one was sent home disappointed.
