Mercer County senior Austin Sparrow signed to run track at Lindsey Wilson College Monday afternoon.
Sparrow, who is a three-sport athlete at Mercer County, had the difficult decision of deciding which sport he wanted to play in college or deciding if he wanted to play multiple sports.
“I was being recruited by Lindsey Wilson, Hanover, Union and Campbellsville. I narrowed it down to Hanover and Lindsey Wilson,” said Sparrow. “At Hanover I could have played football and ran track, but I decided running track at Lindsey Wilson would be the best fit for me.”
Lindsey Wilson track Coach Jamaine Gordon said Austin brings a great attitude but also has great potential.
“Austin came in with a positive attitude on all of his visits and I know his grades are outstanding. As for track, he is still new to the sport so he has a lot of room to grow,” said Gordon.
Sparrow, who was also a member of the football team and is currently on the basketball team, was a state runner-up as a junior in the 4×8, which was his first year running competively.
Now that his decision has been made and he is officially a Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider, Sparrow is excited to get his final high school track season underway and hopefully bring home a state championship before he moves on to the next level.
