Titans Down Estill County; Fall to Harlan County Black Bears

Mercer County junior Connor Souder attempted a three-pointer in the Titans game Sunday in the Berea Invitational Tournament.

The Mercer County boys got an opening round win at the Berea Invitational Tournament over Estill County, but fell short in game number two against Harlan County.

It didn’t start out pretty for the Mercer County Titans in their game against Estill County Saturday afternoon, but it finished beautifully, as Mercer went on to win 79-49.

The Titans trailed 22-18 after one quarter, but their defense stepped up in the second quarter, holding Estill County to only two points, both free-throws. Mercer County went into halftime with a 34-24 lead.

After a strong defensive showing in the second quarter, the Titans decided to turn up the heat on offense in the third quarter. The Titans scored 24 points in the quarter, while holding Estill County to only 13, pushing their lead to 58-37 heading into the final quarter.

 Mercer County continued their strong offensive play in the fourth quarter, dropping 21 points as they cruised to the 79-49 victory.
