Mercer Downs Moore Behind Faulkner’s 33

Mercer County freshman Trevon Faulkner, right, went up for two of his 33 points in the Titans’ victory over Louisville Moore Saturday night.

The Mercer County Titans basketball team got a strong defensive effort from seniors Austin Sparrow and Deron Bartleson Saturday night. Combine that with a 33-point game from Trevon Faulkner and the team cruised to a 72-57 win over the Moore Mustangs.

Bartleson, who was making the first start of his career in place of a sick Drew Davis, scored four points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the game. Even more importantly, Bartleson made it hard for the Mustangs’ big men to do anything down low.

“It feels good to get the start. I was nervous at first, but once I got settled down, it was good.  My role is to play hard, get rebounds and play good defense and just help out the team whatever way I can,” said Bartleson.

Sparrow, who is one of teams’ major sparks off the bench, scored three points and had two assists, but he was also a major force on the defensive end, having to guard Moore’s best player most of the night.

“I was trying to deny him the ball and go as hard as I could for as long as I could. Coach gave me a lot of confidence and told me I could do it,” said Sparrow.
