Titans Look For Fresh Start Under New Head Coach

The Mercer County High School Basketball Team has a new look as they head into the 2014-15 season. That new look starts with a new man in charge as Josh Cook takes over after spending the past two years at Lawrence County High School, where he compiled a 41-22 record.

The Titans also have another new face as they welcome 6-foot-5-inch, Malik Dow, an athletic wing player who transferred from Ballard High School.

Some things will remain the same for the Titans, though, as they return a strong junior class, led by Will Hager, who led the team with 18.7 points per game last season.

Below are questions and answers with Cook about the upcoming season:

Q: Who are the key returners from last years team?

A: “Obviously Will Hager and Trevon (Faulkner) carry the most experience as far as being on the floor. We also return a solid junior class and a couple of seniors who have had the opportunity to get some experience.”

Q: Who were the key players lost from last years Mercer County team?

A: “When I came here it was a fresh start for the players and a fresh start for me, so we’re living in the present and trying to improve.”

Q: Who do you expect to be a key newcomer to the team?

A: “Drew Davis will return after sitting out the last few seasons with an injury. He is healthy now and he is in the rotation. Getting him back is a major boost to our program.”
