Blevins Heading to State XC Meet

Mercer County’s Haley Blevins, left, placed 12th in the Class AA, Region 5 Championships Saturday at Anderson-Dean Community Park. Blevins will compete in the state meet Saturday, Nov. 8 at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Although only in middle school, Haley Blevins isn’t intimidated when she competes against older competition in cross- country.

Blevins, a seventh-grader at King Middle School, will represent Mercer County Senior High School at the state meet after finishing in 12th place in the Class AA, Region 5 Championships Saturday at Anderson-Dean Community Park. She finished the 3.1 mile race in 22:42.

“The weather was very difficult to bear being that it was so cold and windy. Haley is a strong runner and one tough athlete. I remember her first middle school race back in late August and I watched her win the race. I was impressed. I gradually moved her into running at the varsity level and she has done well with that,” said Mercer County Head Coach David Teets.
