Lady Titans Record Season Ends In Region Tourney Loss

Mercer County volleyball players Tori Long, left, and Rose Herchenroeder, right, go up for a block in the 12th Region Tournament Monday, Oct. 27.
The Mercer County volleyball teams’ season came to an end in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament, ending their record season.
The team, which won a school record 24 matches this season, fell in three straight games (15-25, 18-25, 14-25) to the Pulaski County Lady Maroons Monday.
The Lady Titans got out to a quick 3-1 lead in game one, but it didn’t take long for the Lady Maroons to even things back up at six.
With the game tied at six, the Lady Maroons started to find their rhythm behind strong serving from senior Katie Dick.
After Dick’s serving put Pulaski County up 13-7, the teams traded the next few points, making the score 15-10 in favor of the Lady Maroons.
Mercer County sophomore Tori Long tried to get the Lady Titans back in the match with several strong kills, but Pulaski County wouldn’t budge, cruising to a 25-15 game one win.
The two teams started out the second game battling for the lead.
